背景
西英格蘭大學（University of The West England）前身為Bristol Merchant Venture’s School，創立於１８８５年，於１９９２年正式成為大學。位於布里斯托（Bristol）市北方，鄰近巴斯（Bath）及格羅斯特（Gloucester）。現有全時學生二萬三千多人，將近五百位學生來自約四十幾個不同國家。西英格蘭大學以其高質量的教學而久負盛名。高等教育質量保障局一直都對西英格蘭大學的教學質量給予最高的評分。
英國衛報將西英格蘭大學的教學質量評為全國第六名，英國衛報稱這一排名最接近官方的全英大學聯盟表。
西英格蘭大學（University of The West England）與各行各業的密切聯繫使其能夠保持課程的針對性和創新性。許多學位課程都包括一段時間的行業實習。而該校在會計和金融、藝術和設計、文化和媒體研究、英文、歷史、法律、政治和國際方面的研究都獲得相當高的肯定。所有的學院都提供研究計畫。 RAE的結果顯示該校無論在教學獲研究方面都非常傑出，具有優異的學術實力。
