赫瑞瓦特大學（Heriot-Watt University），位於蘇格蘭的愛丁堡，是英國第八個最古老的高等教育學府。最早之創立系所為西元1821年的愛丁堡藝術學院，並早在西元1869年便開始歡迎女性入學。目前總計學生人數約有一萬名，以蘇格蘭本地學生佔大宗，來自歐洲國家以外的國際學生人數比例約為20%。所以在英國留學期間，可以交到許多國家的朋友。

赫瑞瓦特大學（Heriot-Watt University）校址原本設在愛丁堡的中心，主校區現位於愛丁堡市鎮內的邊緣─瑞卡頓（Riccarton）。附屬校區在加拉希爾（Galashiels）；還有一個新的校園在學術市（Academic City）。

赫瑞瓦特大學的命名來自於George Heriot，一位16世紀對政治與商業貢獻卓越的著名珠寶商人，以及James Watt，蒸汽機的發明者，同時也是18世紀偉大的工程發明家。

赫瑞瓦特大學（Heriot-Watt University）是一所相當注重科學、工程、管理及語言的工業技術大學，也是第一所將工業科學園區建於校區內的大學，其工程和科學研究方面的成績居所有蘇格蘭大學之冠，在基礎與應用方面也在國際間獲得良好聲譽。

愛丁堡（Edinburgh）為蘇格蘭的首府，也是續格拉斯哥後蘇格蘭的第二大城市。愛丁堡位於蘇格蘭東海岸福斯灣南岸。1995年被聯合國教科文組織列為世界文化遺產。截止到2001年統計人口為448,624人，占地面積264 平方公里。距離格拉斯哥45英里、利物浦15英里及與亞伯丁 100英里處。

該市以其崎嶇不平的地理環境及許多中世紀、喬治亞時代建築，成為歐洲最富戲劇性的城市之一。

愛丁堡組成了City of Edinburgh council的區域，包含愛丁堡都會區及周圍30英里的鄉村地帶。

該市自1437年開始成為蘇格蘭首府，且為蘇格蘭議會所在地，同時也是啟蒙運動主要中心之一，擁有「Athens of the North」的美名。愛丁堡的舊城鎮與新城鎮區域曾於1995年，被列入UNESCO世界遺跡之列。

該城擁有超過4,500座建築，為世界上建築密度最高的都市。並於2001年的人口普查中，擁有448,624的總人口數。

愛丁堡以其著名的「愛丁堡國際藝術節」Edinburgh International Festival揚名於世。每年8月初開始，為期約一個月的節慶，聚集了許多獨特的活動。數以千計的遊客因該節慶而被吸引至愛丁堡，人數大約等同於該城本身所擁有的居民數。項目包括戲劇、電影、舞蹈和音樂。在藝術節的同期間，愛丁堡城堡前也舉行愛丁堡軍操表演(The Edinburgh Tattoo)。而節慶活動中最為著名的，為「Edinburgh Fringe」(世界最大型的藝術表演)。而在愛丁堡節之外，其他月份尚有「Hogmanay street party」、「Burns Night」、「St. Andrew’s Day」及「Beltnane celebrations」等知名慶典。這些都是去英國留學不可錯過的活動。

赫瑞瓦特大學（Heriot-Watt University）的學生來自90多個不同國家的國際生佔總數的25％。愛丁堡校區生活機能完善，提供學生一切日常生活所需如：商店、銀行、餐廳、健康中心、運動學會和學生服務中心。學校周圍是樹林而且校區內有一座湖。圖書館全年開放，有650多個座位和70多台電腦。運動村的設備有：網球、羽球、應是橄欖球、板球、棍球、健身房，並在學期中提供各式運動課程。Scottish Borders 校區位於距愛丁堡45公里外的山坡綠地上，生活機能也很健全，提供住宿和學會。

赫瑞瓦特大學（Heriot-Watt University）的國際學生福利辦公室為學生提供簽證、工作證、住宿和醫療等方面的諮詢與協助之外，還提供機場接送安排服務與協助10個國際學生社團舉辦活動。學校的學術輔導員提供課程方面的指導。如果學生遭遇困難，學生福利服務會提供個人與私密的諮詢與協助，校園內的健康中心提供優質的醫療服務。職業顧問服務提供學生就業方面的諮商，並且舉辦年度的就業情報博覽會，幫助學生發展個人長才以及提供面試的技巧。這麼多的資源，在英國留學期間可以好好善用。
