雪菲爾哈倫大學（Sheffield Hallam University，簡稱SHU）的歷史可以追溯至維多利亞女王時代的前期。雪菲爾哈倫大學成立於1843年，成立初為設計學院，發展到今天全英第六大規模的名校，為涵蓋領域廣闊的現代化院校。在近幾年的全英高校質量評估中一直獲"優秀"等級。1999年該校畢業生就業率與牛津同列第五名。學校共有十二個學院，包括商業、電腦與管理科學、建築、文化研究、教育、工程、工程資訊技術、財務研究與法律、健康與社區學、休閒與食品管理、科學、都市與地方研究等。對這些科系有興趣的同學，來英國留學可以好好可考慮這所學校。有28,000多名學生和3,000名員工；目前，來自80多個國家的約3,000名國際學生，在本校學習。本校一直都位居全英最現代化的大學之列。

學校共有三座校區，分別為：
城市校區（City Campus）：位於雪菲爾中心火車站正對面，由數棟現代化建築所構成，包括商學院等科系，均在此校區上課。

科立捷校區（Collegiate Campus）：位於雪菲爾市西區，校區為古老建築,草地及樹木所構成，亦是雪菲爾市林木最為繁茂的郊區之一，教育學院及語言中心均位於此校區。

波特校區 （Psalter Campus）：設計學院與文化學院教授眾多課程的場所，還擁有許多卓越的專門設施之上課地點。

雪菲爾（Sheffield）是位於英格蘭北部的一座城市，希夫河（River Sheaf）貫穿雪菲爾市。雪菲爾市人口約為520,700人（2005年），是倫敦以外英格蘭最大的第九大城。

雖然在行政單位上屬於英格蘭北部，但其地理位置實際上位於整個英國的中心地帶，距離倫敦170英里，車程約二小時四十分鐘，旅行至英國其他地區交通亦相當方便。因此對英國留學的同學來說，交通便利。

該城市由於其廣大的工業基礎而得以迅速發展，並於短短數年間，奠下了深厚的經濟基礎。2005年，雪菲爾市的人口數預估為520,700人，為英國除了倫敦之外的八大都市之一，且為「英國核心都市組織」成員。

雪菲爾市（Sheffield）於19世紀以鋼鐵製造業而聞名於世，也因此激起了接近10倍的人口暴增。該市於1893年獲得皇家憲章，並正式改為The City of Sheffield。1970及80年代，然而國際間的競爭導致了本地產業的衰退，近年來，城市已趨向多元化的發展。雪菲爾市亦為藝術文化之城市。它也以英國最友善熱情的城市之一而著稱，是一擁有五十萬人口與相當多學生人口的城市。。在此同時，鄰鎮煤礦工業的瓦解，也間接使雪菲爾市的人口成長受到影響。近年來，雪菲爾致力於重新發展成運動及科技導向的城市。

1991年世界學生運動會在這裏舉行時，帶動了整個城市的體育風氣及運動設施的進步，而英國政府也於1997年宣佈將耗資6千萬英鎊在此地成立英國運動協會。位於市郊的國家公園，除提供了一個訓練運動員的良好自然環境之外，也是人們周末休閒及體會英國鄉村風光的最佳去處。
