學校資訊

南安普敦大學位於南安普敦市，位於英格蘭南部海濱城市。此大學是的「羅素集團」Russell Group和「世界大學聯盟」Worldwide Universities Network的成員。

南安普敦大學的前身是建於1862年的哈特利（Hartley）學院。1952年，學院獲得英國皇家特許證正式成為南安普敦大學。

從那時起，學校就擁有了一些知名的國際校友，例如曾參與設計因特爾奔騰處理器的約翰•海德（John Hyde）。該大學的David Payne教授，曾獲頒司令勳章CBE、皇家院士的成員，也為光學增幅器的發明者；沒有它，光纖電纜也經不起遠距離的挑戰。另外他還擔任光子學的主席，而由於光學增幅器的發明，此後其團體便成一個商業公司。

Tony Hey教授，前任電子學與計算機學院的領導，現為英國微軟的副總裁。２００４年，全球網路World Wide Web的發明者Tim Berners-Lee爵士，被任命為該校電子和計算機科學院的計算機科學教授。該校的工程學全英名位前十。對這些科系感興趣的同學，來英國留學不妨選擇這所學校。

學校在海洋研究方面歷史悠久，海洋專業學術與設計的力量雄厚，海事方面的課程有航運運作專業及帆船及動力艇設計的學士學位等課程。此外國家海洋學中心National Oceanography Centre, Southampton也位在此校中。

學校十分注重跨學科的合作和同業的發展。此外，學院還設有其他專業領域的課程，包括：美術、時裝、平面造型設計及多媒體設計等課程。還有一些更專業的課程，如藝術品評估及古董專業（歷史和收藏），在這些專業的課程中學生可以親手拿起學校所收藏的作品。其商務學院設置各種學位課程，如：市場學、國際商務、旅遊管理、人力資源管理、商務管理及商務運動學等。

學校的教育宗旨是提供「以職業為導向的課程，以成果為目的的研究」。學院的專業課程是強調職業性、實用性和創新性的課程，包含四年制的「三明治」金融服務文科學士學位課程，以及商務信息技術理科學士學位課程，這兩個課程均含有一年的企業實習機會。學校擁有良好的輔助系統，包括全天候的諮詢服務、就業服務、學習輔導及信息服務。還有使用方便的電腦網路、軟體和一流的信息技術系統。

充滿活力、發展迅速的南安普敦大學是英國傑出的以科研為導向的大學之一，它在眾多學科領域內都有很高的建樹。在這裏，學生們可以接觸到最新的知識和思維，可以聆聽處於各學科最前沿的教師的講課。

根據英國學術評鑑RAE assessment （2001年）的資料顯示，其校該年的工學院獲得了最高評級（ 5* ），全英唯一。而根據《泰晤士報高等教育副刊》Times Higher Education Supplement，物理和數學的科研收入排名為全英國大學中第二。而工程和科技方面則為第三。

環境

南安普敦（Southampton）位於英格蘭南部海岸，一座欣欣向榮、十分現代化的城市，乘火車約1個小時就可到達倫敦。也是英國南部最大的港口城市，主要以港口貿易和輪船製造而聞名，可乘渡輪可抵達法國和歐洲其他國家，十三世紀時造船業己出現於此地。時至今日，南安普敦依然是英國主要港口，有多條豪華郵輪航線，並擁有多個貨櫃碼頭。該城市為1912年鐵達尼號首航的出發地，也是英格蘭著名足球俱樂部南安普敦的所在地。

南安普敦人口共有222,000，在英國人口排行榜中排第五十四位，其中學生為4萬人。居民裡佔92.4%是白人，其它人種中以亞裔人最多，有3.8%。南安普敦所在的英格蘭南部海岸是英國氣候最溫暖的地區之一，不過就全國而言，天氣不可預測，一年中的任何時候都可能下雨。南安普敦很少下雪，氣溫也很少在零度以下。

休閒娛樂方面，本市提供各種娛樂和休閒活動，還有為數眾多的公園。南安普敦常主辦國際帆船大賽。城市裏還有幾家電影院、兩家大劇院、幾個音樂廳、藝術畫廊以及南部地區最大之一的購物中心。 對於愛好運動的人來說，南安普敦市有多種運動可以參加。水上運動尤其普遍，可以玩航海、衝浪或機動船。滑雪（幹坡）、騎馬和高爾夫球同樣受人歡迎。因此在英國留學期間不會覺得無聊。

南安普敦市與旅遊城市溫徹斯特（歷史上曾是英格蘭的首都）、索爾茲伯里（Salisbury）和伯恩茅斯（Bournemouth）比臨；新森林（New Forest）（自然風景異常優美的森林區）和世界著名的史前巨石陣（Stonehenge）也距離不遠。

設備

學校的主建築坐落於市郊「Highfield」，大學尚在本市當中設有其他的校區： Boldrewood (生命科學 )、南安普敦總醫院Southampton General Hospital、還有海濱國家海洋學中心National Oceanography Centre。溫柴斯特藝術學院位於另一個校區，其很靠近溫柴斯特市。Avenue校區主持了大部分的人文學科，包含歷史、英語、哲學、現代語言。Avenue校區設有語言學習中心。音樂方面的課程則在Highfield校區。

校園內有體育場、圖書館、現金提款機、書店、健身房及游泳池等多項良好的設施，提供學生上課之餘的休閒活動。校內還有電影製作室、錄音帶製作室、錄音室、多媒體工作室和兩間電視監控室。還有為海外留學生於註冊前，特別開設的導向課程，入學後亦有各項社交活動，學校為保證留學生於校園中的學習能感覺舒服自在，提供一系列的服務及諮詢，以幫助學生解決所遇到的任何困難。這些資源是在英國留學期間可以好好利用的。

住宿資訊

學校新建了數棟學生宿舍，距離主要校區只需步行即可到達， Uni-link的公共汽車穿梭服務於學校的各個校園之間，並與火車站、機場和碼頭相連。Highfield與Avenue校園和絕大多數宿舍樓，都有供騎自行車的學生和訪客存放自行車的車棚。

從學校乘計程車到南安普敦機場只需10分鐘，也可以乘公共汽車到達。從倫敦和伯恩第斯/Weymouth有快車直達南安普敦市中心和機場。公共汽車服務都由Uni-link提供。本地列車、從倫敦和伯恩第斯/Weymouth來的慢車，都在Swaythling車站停駛，從學校到Swaythling車站走路只要20分鐘；從Wessex Lane宿舍樓步行也只要5分鐘。
