學校資訊

聖瑪麗大學學院（St Mary's University College）建於１８５０年，由一群天主教學校的委員開辦，來教導許多貧窮的教會學生。

環境

倫敦(London)是英國的首都、第一大城及第一大港，也是歐洲最大的都會區之一兼世界三大金融中心之一。自１８世紀以來，倫敦一直是世界上最重要的政治、經濟、文化、藝術和娛樂中心之一。倫敦市區因常常充滿著潮濕的霧氣，因此有個叫「霧都」的別名。

舊有的「City of London」，仍保有其狹小的中世紀界線。然而現今的「倫敦」一詞，早已被廣泛地應用至包含其周邊地帶在內的整個大都市區。

做為兩千年來一個重要的定居點，倫敦現已發展成為世界重要的商業、經濟及文化中心，且其在政治、教育、娛樂、媒體、時尚及藝術方面的影響力，使它如同巴黎、紐約與東京一般，成為主要的全球都市之一。是去英國留學必定要拜訪的城市。

倫敦是歐盟中人口最多的城市，共擁有７７０萬人口，包含位於大都會區的１２-１４萬人。倫敦的人口組成十分國際化，吸引了多樣文化及宗教領域的居民，並使用超過３００種不同的語言。

倫敦同時也是國際的運輸中心，共擁有5個國際機場及一個大型港口。它是世界上最大的航空樞紐之一，其主要機場希斯羅比起世界上其他機場，運輸了數量更多的國際旅客。除此之外，倫敦還擁有歐洲最長的地鐵系統。這對英國留學學生來說，交通方便。

設備

Students’ Union
The Students’ Union building has a fully licensed bar with screens for viewing sporting events. There are a number of regular events, i.e. discos etc. The main events are always the Freshers’ Ball, Christmas and Summer Balls.

There are also a variety of Clubs and Societies available to join. The sabbatical officers are always pleased to welcome students and are happy to answer any questions you may have. Please refer to your Students’ Union Handbook for further details when you receive it.

Dolche Vita Café
There is an on site café available for a variety of drinks and snacks. Please see opening times under ‘Catering Facilities’ further on in this booklet.

Vending Machines
There are soft drink vending machines in the De Marillac Halls, and both snack (chocolates, sweets and crisps) and soft drink vending machines in the Shannon Corridor adjacent to the refectory.

Shops
5 minutes walk to the shops and Sub-Post Office in Strawberry Hill Road. There are a few other local shops on Waldegrave Road or shops in Twickenham or Teddington are a 15 minute walk. There are newsagents, supermarkets and chemists in all main shopping areas.

Transport
Strawberry Hill Station to London Waterloo is about a 30 minute journey. Buses to Teddington, Twickenham and Richmond pass the College. Student discount cards are available from the Students’ Union once students are registered with the University College.

Leisure Facilities
There are a number of local gyms in the area and a public swimming pool in Teddington.

Bars & Restaurants
There are many local bars, restaurants/ cafés and fast food outlets within walking distance.
