(Georgia)
In early February 1733, a small group of settlers was led by James Oglethorpe. They traced the stream of the Savannah River and arrived at Yamacra Bluff on February 12th. Oglethorpe and his followers began the process of establishing their new home, and this city is the Savannah of today. Amongst all the fifty states, Georgia is the only city that was founded and colonized by those “poor and deserving” refugees.
Since the establishment of the state, Georgia has become the commercial leader of the region, being rich in light industry. Georgia is one of the states that produce most pulp within the nation and now ranks first in the production of peanuts, pecans, lima beans and pimiento peppers.
Savannah, a city full of cultural and historical heritages, has been called "this nation's most beautiful city". The capital of the state, Atlanta, has become the leading transportation center of the southeast America.
The famous Margaret Mitchell novel, Gone With the Wind was set in Georgia, and the background of the story was the American Civil War.
